The interior around Fig Tree Drive and Boggy Peak has dead spots, the far east at Devil's Bridge and Half Moon Bay can drop to a single bar, and on Barbuda expect signal around Codrington and much less along the empty beaches. Offshore sailing legs lose service.

Connectivity tips for Antigua and Barbuda
Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi, then switch the line and data roaming on after landing at V.C. Bird. Validity typically starts at the first connection to a local network.
Download Google Maps for Antigua and Barbuda offline. Signage is thin and several beach turnoffs are unmarked.
Rent a car only with the visitor's driving permit, about US$20 through the rental agency, and remember driving is on the left with sharp speed bumps.
Agree the taxi fare and the currency, EC or US dollars, before you set off. Rates are fixed by route and drivers carry the official list.
Save your boat captain's and villa host's numbers in WhatsApp on day one; that is how everything gets rearranged when the weather changes.

Can you rely on free Wi-Fi?
Resorts, villas and restaurants almost all have Wi-Fi, and in the main hotels it is fine for streaming. Away from that it is uneven: cafe connections in St John's slow to a crawl when a ship is in, small guesthouses share one line across every room, and power cuts take the router with them. On Barbuda and on boats, assume none. Treat Wi-Fi as a bonus and keep the eSIM as your main connection, especially for calls and anything time-sensitive.
Local SIM card or eSIM in Antigua and Barbuda?
Digicel and Flow both have stores in St John's, around High Street and the malls, plus outlets near Jolly Harbour and in the larger settlements. Prepaid starter packs are cheap in EC dollars and top-ups are sold in supermarkets and small shops. Staff normally ask for ID to register the line, stores keep short weekday hours and close early on Saturday, and counters at V.C. Bird International are not always open for late or weekend arrivals. If your flight lands in the evening, you may not get a SIM until the next working day.
