Coverage follows the population: the A1 to A6 motorways, Larnaca and Paphos airports, the resort strips at Ayia Napa, Protaras and Coral Bay, and the Limassol seafront are all well served. Mountain villages, the Akamas dirt tracks and the Karpas direction beyond the buffer zone are the weak spots. The north is not covered at all.

Connectivity tips for Cyprus

Download Cyprus offline in Google Maps. It saves you in the Troodos, the Akamas and anywhere the village road forks three ways without a sign.
If you cross to the north, expect the eSIM to lose service. The plan covers Cyta, PrimeTel and Epic only, and those networks do not operate there. Bring a passport and buy the required car insurance at the crossing.

Can you rely on free Wi-Fi?
Hotels, apartments, cafés and beach bars almost all have free Wi-Fi, and in the towns it is usually fine for messages and a video call. It is also the usual holiday Wi-Fi: shared, slow at 8pm when the whole hotel is streaming, and absent the moment you are on a road, a trail or a boat. Some municipalities run free hotspots on seafront promenades, with the coverage of a hotspot rather than a network. Treat Wi-Fi as a bonus for big downloads and keep the eSIM as the thing you actually navigate and pay with.
Local SIM card or eSIM in Cyprus?
Cyta, PrimeTel and Epic all sell prepaid tourist packs, and you will find counters or kiosks at Larnaca and Paphos airports as well as shops in every town centre. Prices are reasonable by European standards, and if you are staying for months a local prepaid line with a Cypriot number has real advantages: you can top up in any kiosk, and some services still want a local mobile. The friction is registration. Prepaid SIMs in Cyprus must be tied to an identity document, so you hand over a passport, wait for the paperwork, and hope the desk is staffed when your flight lands at midnight.
