Connectivity tips for Qatar
Apply on hayya.qa before you fly if your nationality needs a permit; many passports get visa-free entry or visa on arrival, and the A1 permit is valid 90 days from issue.

Can you rely on free Wi-Fi?
Hamad Airport, the malls, the metro stations and hotels all have free Wi-Fi, and it is fast. It will not help with calls, because internet calling is blocked on Qatari Wi-Fi as much as on local SIMs. For a video call home, switch to the FairSIM line.

Ooredoo and Vodafone Qatar have booths after baggage claim at Hamad International, open around the clock. Ooredoo's Visitor SIM costs QR 75 (about $21) for 6 GB over 7 days, QR 100 for 10 GB over 14 days or QR 150 for 25 GB over 30 days. Vodafone's visitor packs run QR 65 to 150. You register with your passport at the counter.
The free Hayya SIMs were a 2022 World Cup promotion and are gone. A local SIM also carries the local calling rules, so WhatsApp and FaceTime calls stay blocked on it. A FairSIM eSIM is installed before you fly, roams on the same Ooredoo or Vodafone towers, and calls over it typically work.
